Our Story

The Children’s Cottage Cooperative (CCC) is a play-based environment, centered around the children’s interests, imagination and passions. Children are given a foundation of trust and love that will enable them to open their hearts and minds to the world around them.
Our adult-child ratio is 1:5 allowing for individual attention.

Our mission is to instill a love of learning in children and help them develop essential life skills. By honoring their thoughts and feelings, allowing them to practice problem-solving, and encouraging openness to the world around them, we teach children to value themselves and others.

Philosophy

When you come to the Children’s Cottage you are entering a child’s world, where play involves their ideas, their work, and their fun.

As a parent at the CCC, you are directly involved in your child’s school experience, guiding them on a journey where their imagination and enthusiasm for life and learning can flourish freely. Preschool activities include arts and crafts, music, role-play, stories, construction, sand and water play, individual and group times, enrichment programs, field trips and more!

History

This charming little white house with green trim, emanating warmth and children’s laughter is the historical Children’s Cottage Cooperative. CCC was founded in 1948 by a group of forward-thinking mothers, who wanted to raise their children as a community. It has been preserved by a growing community of teachers and parents, after several relocations across Marin County in the past 70 years. It has finally found its home in the historic Remillard Cottage which was built in 1891.

Celebration and Exploration

Celebration is an opportunity for children to learn about a variety cultural traditions. These include, a Chinese New Year is celebrated with a school day parade, winter holidays with a popular family sing-along, as well as Earth Day, St. Patricks day, to name a few. Families are encouraged to bring in their own traditions and culture to the community.

At the foundation of the Cottage is exploration and play.  Every month, our children take a field trip to explore their community. We visit the local fire station, post office and police station. We value nature and outdoor play. For an entire week in May, school is at China Camp State Park for “Outdoor School”- where children explore, enjoy nature, and get very, very muddy.
